Y3W3 - Dutch Coast? Why not?

School on Monday was back to normal as usual. However, Tuesday, Bailey found out that she was being moved up a class in German. She was very excited and I must add that I have been impressed with her speaking/understanding lately. Way to go, Bay!

Thursday was another holiday and we were excited to go to Fairytale Land again until we looked at the weather report. It was supposed to be heavy rains so we changed our plans and decided to go to 1 1/2 hours to Liège, Belgium to go to a shopping mall. Our first mall in two years. It was good, we were out and about, and out of the rain. It was nothing special but just fun to be somewhere new.

On the way home we stopped at Ardennes Cemetary. It is the location of the soldiers that lost their lives in the Battle of the Bulge. It is always amazing to see the rows upon rows of crosses. Those willing to lose their lives to fight for all the rest of us. We felt like it was a fitting stop as the anniversary of D-Day was last week. Inside the chapel, they had an amazing marble map of the progress of the Allies.

The weather for the weekend was supposed to be great so we felt like we had to take advantage of it since we have to be in town the next couple weekends. We decided to go to the Dutch coast. We had heard good things and we tried to do a weekend there at the end of last summer but couldn't find a hotel room. This time we lucked out. Friday after work, we picked Greg up and drove to the Netherlands. It is about a three hour drive from our house.

We arrived in good form so we walked the little town of Middelburg and ate at an excellent Mexican restaurant called Paso Doble. Delicious!

The next morning we were all about driving the Western coast line and finding a beach. We stopped to get some necessary beach supplies, i.e. buckets, shovels, etc. We found a great spot and spent a good portion of the day there. The girls loved it. At one point, Bryn declothed herself completely because she was a little wet. We ate fresh fish, hit some nearby small towns, had a couple ice creams, and headed back home. It was a great weekend and one we are definitely looking to repeat before we leave.
