Y3W28+29 - Weihnachtsmarkts & Christmas Performances Up The Wazoo

The week began in the usual way except that my mom was in a slight panic that she did not have Christmas presents for the girls so we spent the days shopping. The afternoons were spent doing the normal soccer, dance, swimming, dance again. My mom also had a pseudo Christmas for the kids which was nice for them to open the presents she gave them with her there.

We managed to fit in a few more Christmas markets. Friday, we went to the Siegburg medieval market. We have gone every year since we have lived here, and it is still one of my favorites. Saturday morning we took in the Ahrweiler market and had just enough time to make to the IBIS Christmas market. We lucked out and were able to get to see Santa right away. We stayed for a couple hours while Greg attended/conducted a baptism at Church.

One of the highlights for Avery this weekend was the ability to take Barney the Bear home for the weekend. Every student gets to take Barney home for a weekend and then share their experiences with the class on Monday. You will see Barney in every picture from the weekend.

It was my mom's last day so we spent the rest of the evening just hanging out a bit together. The girls were tired. It had been quite a busy week and they just needed some downtime. Sunday morning, bright and early, Greg got my mom off to the train station. It was a great visit with Grandma - probably her last to Germany while we are here so we are hoping she had a wonderful time. We had a great time with her.

This week was spent getting a few more Christmas presents, wrapping everything, doing all of the backed up laundry. The highlights included Bailey's talent show, Bryn's kindergarten Christmas performance, Avery's open classroom, and eating dinner at McDonald's. Not that eating at McDonald's is that special, but the fact that we ate inside was a huge bonus to the girls. We were on our way home from swimming when we were directed by the police to go in the opposite direction. They said there was an accident blocking the entire road and we would have to find a different way home. So, we decided to go to the McDonald's that was in that direction to see if the accident would clear while we were eating. It didn't and we ended up being in traffic for another accident going the other way home. So, our fifteen minute drive home took about two hours (with eating time). Ahhh, the joys of driving at night, in the rain, in Germany. I honestly don't know how Greg does it every day.
