Y2W48 - BW Visit

The week started with my incredibly important Birthday, and getting my mom back to the US. Then, Bryn performed in her assembly (in front of the whole school). It might explain the "deer in headlights" look on her face. She was cute though, as were all the kindergarteners.

On Thursday morning, our good friend Bryan flew in to visit us. I picked him up at the train station and we started the sightseeing ASAP. We started by going to Bad Godesberg mainly so that I could guage the time so I wouldn't be late to pick Bryn up from school. We took a walk down the Rhein that afternoon, hoping that Lleyton would fall asleep in the stroller. No luck with Lleyton but still a very beautiful walk. We picked up the girls from school and played there for a while until we met Greg at home. We then went downtown Bonn and saw the city a bit before we grabbed a bite at a pretty good Mexican restaurant that we had never been brave enough to try before. All-in-all, it was a packed day but that was just the beginning of the packed weekend to come.

Friday, Greg took the day off so they had a guys day out. They hit some of the usual haunts... a drive down the Rhein to Remagen and then on to Koblenz for a visit to the Deutsches Eck.

From there it was on to the Mosel Valley - which never gets old. They went on a tour of one of our favorite castles, Burg Eltz and then briefly visited Cochem stopping long enough for a few pictures.

All this needed to be completed before 5pm as we had lined up a babysitter so we all could go out for the evening. Before we could go out for the evening, they 'needed' to take a hot lap around the Nürburgring. The famous race track opens to the public on weekdays after 5pm. Greg and J.R. had attempted to take a spin around the ring last summer, but arrived early in the day and couldn't wait around all day. Bryan recorded the entire 22km lap, but we'll spare you the pain of watching the whole thing. They thought it was pretty cool.

That evening we planned on showing Bryan the Dom and eating at a classic German restaurant. Our plan was slightly derailed as our first restaurant of choice was closed (for the month of April?). Greg quickly called a friend who lives in Köln for some advice and after a nice walk we found ourselves at an even more authentic German restaurant than we originally planned. After dinner, we grabbed a little ice cream and took a walk around the Dom.

Saturday and Sunday included such things as Maastricht, Den Haag, and Keukenhof Gardens with plenty of picture taking going on. The kids were great as I'm sure they were a bit tired. Bryan constantly keeps them entertained by carrying them on his shoulders, swinging them around by arms and feet, etc. They will be going through serious withdrawals next week as I'm sure I won't be putting any of them on my shoulders to walk around town.

Maastricht was great as always. Bryan - we told you the waffles were the best ever.

We finished the day with a little English Premier League Football - Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspurs and barbeque beef sandwiches.

The next day was a power trip to Den Haag with full on Museum going - Mauritshuis and the M.C. Escher Museum.

And, of course Keukenhof - it is just amazing all of the flowers.

We didn't make it home until 10:00pm on Sunday night. Monday morning we just had enough time to drop the girls off at school, drop into the childrens store in Siegburg for some souveniers, and drop Bryan back off at the train station. Wow. What a weekend!
